Tutoring 101

Study Skills and Time Management

Students learn valuable and transferable skills through activities and assignments utilizing high- interest science, social studies, and literature materials. Students are encouraged to bring their books and planners from their current classes. Students also learn to recognize their dominant learning style and learn strategies designed for their particular learning style.

Organizing their materials from their classes such as handouts and notes, developing a folder/ notebook system that works for them, using a planner

Planning study time into their busy schedule, juggling their extra- curricular activities, allowing enough time to complete projects and time- consuming assignments, planning ahead

Previewing / reading texts >

Learning how to use/read a textbook, reading strategies to improve memory and understanding of material, understanding how to read differently for the type of material (literature vs. science text)

Test- taking skills >

Learn the correct way for studying for exams and learn testing tips for multiple choice, short answers, and essays exams. 

Note-taking >

Different methods of taking notes, learning to study your notes along with your texts and other handouts

Speed reading techniques >

Increasing your speed, developing better skimming and scanning skills.
